Sabbath
Sabbath
Blantyre has many religions. Many seventh day Adventists observe the Sabbath on Saturday. Many other Christians here observe the Sabbath on Sunday. Most shops are closed today. There are many Presbyterians and we met a catholic bishop while we were traveling who lives here. There are Muslims and Hindus here as well. We have heard the call to prayers and had a wonderful vegetarian meal last night at an Indian restaurant.
We passed the scene of an accident yesterday where a minibus had turned over in the road. It was very serious. Now I see why we were warned that they may not be so safe but they get folks from point A to point B. Today we saw one of these Toyota vans chugging up a hill and guy jumped out, grabbed a can full of gas, poured it in the tank, and off they went. Resourceful!
We have a little trickle of internet here and there. Our Sabbath is mostly spent at the altar of Skyband our internet provider. We have an account that allows one to tap into a hot spot here and there and a hot spot is about ten minutes away from the guest house. We also have a little plug in device called a dongle but it is more expensive, but also slow. My T-mobile broadband device is locked it turns out. We wait and pray for the Skyband dongle and faster intent and are grateful for our safe trip and the opportunity to help with important work that may help the people of Malawi.
